Step by step - Our history

  • Gründung Flying Steps
    The crew was founded by Vartan Bassil and Kadir "Amigo" Memis in Berlin in 1993.
  • Backstage Pass Vartan Bassil
    This is what the backstage passes looked like in 1993.
  • Music Instructor Goldene Schallplatte
    In 1998 they released the single "Super Sonic" together with EDM act Music Instructor. It was sold more then 250,000 times.
  • Battle of the Year 2000
    In 2000 the Flying Steps won the International Battle Of The Year for the second time after 1994.
  • Red Bull Beat Battle 2005
    In 2005 they won the Red Bull Beat Battle and became world champion once again.
  • Flying Steps Academy
    On June 25, 2007 the Flying Steps opened their own dance academy in Berlin-Kreuzberg.
  • Red Bull Beat Battle 2007
    In 2007 the Flying Steps won another world championship – the Red Bull Beat Battle.
  • Red Bull Flying Bach
    In 2010 Red Bull Flying Bach had its premier at Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin.
  • Red Bull Flying Illusion
    In 2014 the arena show Red Bull Flying Bach followed & premiered at Tempodrom in Berlin.

The Flying Steps were founded by Vartan Bassil and Kadir „Amigo" Memis in Berlin in 1993. Only one year later they won the Battle of the Year (BOTY) for the first time. And that was just the beginning.

Another milestone in the history of the quadruple breakdance world champions was the establishment of the Flying Steps Academy in Berlin in 2007. Today it is the biggest urban dance school in Germany.

In 2010 Flying Bach was born – the company's first in-house production. Only shortly after it was followed by the show Flying Illusion, which premiered in Berlin's Tempodrom in 2014. With both productions the Flying Steps have excited live audiences of more than half a million. The rest is history...

The Flying Steps Academy

With its 32 teachers the Flying Steps Academy is the biggest urban dance school in Germany. On 700 sqm in the heart of Berlin the next generation of Urban Dance gets the chance to learn from the best teachers of the scene. The comprehensive course program includes all modern dance styles - from hip hop and breakdance over popping and locking to afro house, contemporary dance, ballet and special classes for our youngest fans.
