Baroque-era composer Johan Sebastian Bach is a giant of Western civilization. His work has been interpreted in analog electronic keyboard settings by Wendy Carlos and via pianist Jacques Loussier's jazz trio. Flying Bach takes the titans's music to the present day by pairing his famed „The Well-Tempered Clavier" preludes and fugues with Swedish ballerina Anna Holmström and the Berlin-based World Breakdancing Champion Flying Steps b-boy nonet.
Flying Bach premiered in Berlin in 2010 and makes its West Coast debut in San Francisco. The show's new tour starts its run Friday, May 20, at the Masonic in San Francisco before heading south to the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts on Tuesday, May 24.
Music Director Christoph Hagel, who was once a pupil of Leonard Bernstein, will play piano and period harpsichord amidst electronic beats and 70 minutes of dancing.
